There's this story I wrote once, I don't remember when, that I really liked. It was about a boy and girl who are falling out of love, and they go on a trip with some friends. It won an honorable mention in a flash fiction contest, then I used to enter things like that. I've never really cared for my fiction, but, in my mind, this story was different.
I can't find it anywhere. It's lost. Like Hemingway's suitcase of stories on a French train, except I have no one to blame but myself. And also, not that good.
I never took good care of my stories, and so they've flitted away from me like dry leaves.

this is one of my absolute biggest fears. in fact, i know that if my home were to catch on fire, the things i would instantly save if i only had as much as my arms could carry would be: my negatives, and my printed poems. i just can't bear the idea of parting with something i've created. this leads me to believe i would be a terribly unsuccessful painter.
Or like Woody Allen's character in Husbands and Wives!
Cambria! I just know we're going to be married one day. I just now finished reading a story, and I had an idea for you, and then I saw your note about our mutual embarrassment about crushing out on Jacob, and then your clarification. Which, I know what you meant, and you are so frickin' adorable.
Anyway, I tried sleuthing out your e-mail - and failed. I wanted to propose a little flash fiction club between us. Just little thingies that we write for each other, when we feel like it, that could be seeds for something bigger later on.
Tonight I started a book called Lit Riffs - it's a bunch of famousish writers picking a song and writing a story inspired by it. The first one was real bad; the 2nd one was delightful. I thought, How fun, I could do this exercise ONLY IF somebody else picked the song for me.
Then BING! Bloop! I remembered your entry about losing that story, flash fiction, and I thought how fun it might be if we each picked a song for the other and wrote like say 150 words or something. Just a quickie.
But hey. Let's move this party somewhere a little more private, what do you say?
